Coach House Cottage, a 2/3 bedroom self catering cottage has been lovingly restored and is just a few steps from the ancient inns, antique shops and gardens of Eastbourne’s picturesque Old Town and Motcombe Village. The cottage is next to the once holiday home of local comedian Tommy Cooper. An iron silhouette of the comedian complete with his famous fez can be found on the flint wall outside. This charming property has been modernised in recent years and completely redecorated to offer modern living in an older style property. The property has a gated entrance and occupies a favoured position in the heart of Motcombe Village, just a short walk from the famous Lamb Inn with its genuine atmosphere, oak beams and Olde Worlde charm. If you are a fan of real ales or have always wanted to try them then this is the place to visit; built in 1180 it is thought to be one of the oldest buildings in the town alongside the neighbouring St Mary's Church. The property is arranged over three floors. It can accommodate 4- 6 people and children are very welcome. On the ground floor is a well fitted modern kitchen with electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge freezer, and dryer; a dining/sitting room with sofa bed, television, table and chairs; a downstairs cloakroom with hand basin and WC and a utility room with washing machine and sink. A short staircase to the first floor leads to the living room with Victorian Fireplace, with a comfortable leather sofa and armchairs for you to relax, a flat screen TV with freesat channels and DVD. This room has views over Motcombe Gardens and St Mary’s Church. Also on this floor is a large shower room, with a wall cabinet with shaver point and light, a hand basin and WC. The twin bedroom has double aspect windows and lovely comfortable beds to welcome you after a busy day. The top floor is dedicated to the master suite with luxurious king size bed, dressing table and ample wardrobe space. This room offers stunning views of Motcombe Village and has an en-suite bathroom, with bath, wall cabinet with shaver point and light, hand basin and WC. You can be confident that our bedrooms are elegantly furnished with comfortable beds and crisp clean linens. Pillows and duvets are Microfibre so allergy sufferers need not worry. Likewise, the bathroom has a selection of quality toiletries and plenty of generously sized soft towels. Fresh flowers and a tea tray will welcome you and a bottle of wine chilled in the fridge will get you straight in the holiday mood. The Cottage contains our Eastbourne Holiday Cottages “Out and About Box” which provides information on local attractions, walks, Ordnance Survey Maps, bus and railway timetables and food and pub guides. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included in the weekly rental. This property also comes with a secure off road parking space situated through the flint archway and locked nightly. The cottage is ideal for up to 6 guests and provides luxury accommodation in keeping with the high standards of Eastbourne Holiday Cottages. Additional Extras A travel cot may be provided for ‘small babies/little people’ up to 2 years old, (or 14 kgs) at an additional cost of £10 for the duration of your stay, although we respectfully ask that ‘baby’ bed linen is supplied by our guests. A highchair(s) is available for toddlers at an additional cost of £10 for one, or £15 for two for the duration of your stay. Motcombe Gardens and a little bit of history The property overlooks Motcombe Gardens. This tranquil small park has its own pond, the source of the Bourne Stream from which Eastbourne derives its name. The small pond in Motcombe Gardens is the last vestige of the Burne, or Bourne, which ran through the Old Town of Eastbourne. 'East' was added to ‘Burne’ in the 13th century. The bubbling source is guarded by a statue of Neptune. An historic circular dovecote overlooks sheltered lawns for picnicking and an adjacent bowls club. Motcombe Gardens are overlooked by St. Mary's Church, a Norman church which is said to lie on the site of a Saxon ‘moot’, or meeting place. This gives Motcombe its name. Local
