Surrounded by open countryside and wildlife, this beautifully handcrafted shepherd’s hut provides a luxurious solo or couples’ retreat in a peaceful spot. Wake to birdsong, perhaps viewing buzzards circling overhead, and admire the ever-changing colours of the sky from your private hideaway. You’ll have three horses for company, and evenings may bring sightings of foxes, badgers and owls. Nearby, Battle Abbey (5 miles) is a must for history lovers, with its famous battlefield to explore and fascinating exhibitions bringing the events of 1066 to life. The lively seaside town of Hastings (9.5 miles) has a pebble beach, traditional pier, atmospheric Old Town and two historic cliff railways. For walking and picnics, you’re right on the edge of the High Weald National Landscape, or head to the South Downs (12.5 miles). Further afield, Camber Sands (24.5 miles) is perfect for laid-back beach days.
This sweet pale green wooden hut is compact, cosy and beautifully finished, with everything needed for a relaxing few nights away. At one end, indulge in lazy mornings in the king-size bed, then sizzle up a tasty brekkie at the well-equipped kitchen area. There’s also a table and chairs for dining indoors. You’ll have a WC inside the hut, along with a separate outdoor shower a short distance away for a refreshing, back-to-nature touch (shared with campers in July and August).
Outside, you can dine on your private deck while taking in the surrounding countryside, which has two comfortable chairs and a small table, plus a BBQ for alfresco suppers. As evening falls, gather around the fire pit and enjoy the stillness, or play a game of quoits for a little extra fun. On clear nights, this area is perfect for stargazing and watching for shooting stars. Private parking is available for one car.
