This stylish and historic listed property is located in the beautiful village of Cartmel which offers a choice of highly-acclaimed restaurants, food shops and pubs, a short drive from Lake Windermere.

As a former village "Lock-Up" the property was a place of temporary detention for rogues and miscreants and was awarded listed status in 1970. In the heart of Cartmel, lying between the Lake District National Park and Morecambe Bay Coastline, the village is a "go-to" destination for foodies with Simon Rogan's two 'starred' restaurants a short stroll away. Staying in this property, you can take advantage of the array of good quality restaurants, charming shops and pubs all within easy walking distance. Cartmel is also home to an impressive Norman Priory as well as its own racecourse which holds meetings on certain bank holiday weekends and hosts a range of other events throughout the year. There are some fantastic walks to enjoy close to the village and of course, the picturesque Lake District is a short drive away.

Venture through the front door of this tiny former jail and you will find a small area with tea and coffee making facilities, a welcome hamper and a small fridge. There's also a built-in wardrobe with ample space for coats, clothing and walking boots, as well as additional blankets to wrap up warm when enjoying the (heated) outside space. You will also find the contemporary wet room on this floor with shower and WC and under floor heating. Heading up the narrow stairs to the first floor you'll discover the sumptuous bedroom with its romantic four poster double bed and Smart TV with Sonos sound bar.

In the courtyard, you will find the patio area where you can rest and enjoy a morning coffee and the night skies in the evening beneath the wall heater. There is also a shared utility room across the courtyard with washing machine, tumble dryer and ample space to store your bikes securely. There is a parking permit available for one car.

It was delightful. We had a small issue while we were there and the owners/staff could not have been more helpful, so would highly recommend.

What an amazing place! The jail is full of character and beautifully fitted-out. Literally 2 seconds from The Square and all the main restaurants & pubs. It feels very cool to be literally staying where all the old miscreants have been locked up! Great experience, and Id definitely recommend it for a weekend away.

I knew the space was small and it was..probably 4 nights was a bit too long considering it rained and we couldn't make use of the outdoor seating.....a parasol would have been a handy addition. Ideal location.

I took my partner here for her birthday and we had a great time. The old jail house is exactly what you need for a small stay, its unique, interesting and in a beautiful location. The pubs and locals were amazing. All in all we had a great weekend and would definitely recommend this place.

Great place to stay for a couple of nights, it's very quirky, and it's finished to a high spec. It's also in a great location. I would recommend for a short break, but it's worth knowing that it is really, really tiny - it's pretty tricky to walk around the bed, and there's very little space for your bags etc., so definitely best for those weekend Read moretrips when you don't have much luggage, and you'll be out and about all day, and just need a bed to collapse on at the end of it! The Jail is ideally situated for exploring all that Cartmel has to offer, but even for a small couple like ourselves, the property is very cramped at times! Certainly a unique stay, but not the most relaxing.

Eastbourne is a bustling seaside resort on the south coast of England. It has been a popular British holiday destination since Victorian times. The town’s attractive pier and promenade is still a major draw for visitors in search of a traditional seaside experience – you can enjoy a long, level stroll along the sea front whilst enjoying an ice cream or some fish and chips. The pebble beach is a good place to park a deckchair and take in the sun, or paddle in the sea. Great for family breaks and as a romantic getaway, the town has much to offer all visitors. The South Downs Way starts in town and extends 100 miles eastwards to Winchester – one of the first stops on the National Trail are the imposing chalk cliffs of the iconic Beachy Head, a few miles to the east of town. Eastbourne is a big hit with train enthusiasts as it’s home to the Spa Valley Railway and the Miniature Steam Railway. Historians may like Redoubt Fort and The Observatory Science Museum (in nearby Herstmonceux). For all-weather attractions for children why not investigate Fort Fun or the indoor Motcombe Swimming Pool? Further afield, and within a one-hour drive to the west is Brighton, with its own pier, wonderful array of shops and eateries. To the west is Bexhill-on-Sea with its impressive art gallery, the De La Warr Pavillion, and long seafront. Just beyond is the old fishing town of Hastings with its new award-winning designer pier, ancient castle and fishing shanty town.
