This pretty three-bedroom cottage overlooking the village green and 14th-century church is within half a mile of shops, historic pubs and the first-ever National Trust property. It’s also within 5 miles of a beach, a zoo, two English wine centres and lovely walks through the rolling hills, ancient woodlands and pretty villages of the South Downs National Park, making it the perfect base for a small group interested in exploring this lovely corner of England.

 

The hallway as you enter this elegant dog-friendly cottage, is the ideal space for coats and boots and leads to the lounge overlooking the village green. There’s a downstairs WC too for convenience, and the well-equipped kitchen is a great space for cooking up a meal for everyone to enjoy around the dining table, perhaps accompanied by a glass of English wine made from grapes grown within a couple of miles of the cottage. Curl up by the wood burner in the evening, and then retreat to the three comfortable bedrooms upstairs. The family bathroom is also upstairs. Outside is a little table that’s ideal for enjoying a quick snack, and roadside parking outside the property is unrestricted.

 

This charming cottage is in the pretty village of Alfriston that links directly to the South Downs Way that can be joined 200 metres from the property. This National Trail takes you past hillside chalk figures, pretty villages and sweeping sea views towards Eastbourne 9 miles away, and as far as Winchester in the other direction. Within 2 miles of the property are two acclaimed English wine centres offering wine tours and taste experiences, and one of them is right by Drusillas Park zoo. The shingle beach of Seaford is 5 miles away, and the attractive historic town of Lewes is just 10 miles away. This attractive cottage is the perfect base for exploring the treasures of East Sussex.

A really comfortable, spacious and homely cottage for our family gathering including one baby, a toddler and a well behaved small Labrador. The immediate local area is great for walks from the cottage to the fabulous local shop, along the river Cuckmere and up onto the Downs. Some pushchair friendly and others baby carriers were required.
