Stylishly updated Victorian property, is an ideal base for family seaside holidays, located minutes from the seafront and within easy access of South Downs National Park.

This traditional terraced property is the ideal spot for a family looking for an outdoorsy seaside retreat. Sleeping five (with an additional pull-out bed if needed), this house ideally accommodates two parents and up to four children or extended family members.

Entering the property via two steps and heading straight into the living room, you’ll find a cosy hub where you can fire up the wood burner and watch TV together at the end of a fun day of walking. This open-plan living space also has a large dining table to the rear, so you can dine sociably whilst discussing your plans for the day ahead. Enjoy a spot of breakfast on the private patio with a small outdoor dining set. On the first floor of the property, you’ll find two bedrooms and a family bathroom, creating a superb spot for kids to bunk down. A twin room comfortably sleeps two, and a single bedroom offers a pull-out mattress for the perfect sleepover spot. Sneaking up to the second floor via a cottage-style staircase, the king-size bedroom with sloping ceilings and reduced head-height in the eaves, provides a private haven for weary parents.

Half a mile into the village of Meads, you’ll find a handful of pubs, restaurants and independent shops, as well as a small local supermarket. During your trip, you’ll be staying just over 300 meters from Holywell Beach, which is a quieter and more laid-back alternative to the busy beach at Eastbourne. You’ll also be located on the very edge of the South Downs National Park, which boasts some of the most remarkable coastal views in the country, and is only 2 miles from the iconic Beachy Head – the vistas from atop the chalky cliffs here will be a childhood memory that kids cherish from this summer holiday.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

A great location for a potentially lovely holiday cottage which just needs a little more investment in terms of the kitchen equipment and more art on the walls to add character. However, we had a lovely stay helped by fantastic weather. Nearest beach, Holywell, is just 10 mins walk away and you can get to Beachy Head in half an hour. A comfortable cottage very conveniently situated for shops, pubs and the beach. The sloping ceiling in the loft bedroom was more of a problem than we expected from the photos in the brochure. Meads Street is quite narrow so that even with allocated parking , manoeuvring is not always easy.

Eastbourne is a bustling seaside resort on the south coast of England. It has been a popular British holiday destination since Victorian times. The town’s attractive pier and promenade is still a major draw for visitors in search of a traditional seaside experience – you can enjoy a long, level stroll along the sea front whilst enjoying an ice cream or some fish and chips. The pebble beach is a good place to park a deckchair and take in the sun, or paddle in the sea. Great for family breaks and as a romantic getaway, the town has much to offer all visitors. The South Downs Way starts in town and extends 100 miles eastwards to Winchester – one of the first stops on the National Trail are the imposing chalk cliffs of the iconic Beachy Head, a few miles to the east of town. Eastbourne is a big hit with train enthusiasts as it’s home to the Spa Valley Railway and the Miniature Steam Railway. Historians may like Redoubt Fort and The Observatory Science Museum (in nearby Herstmonceux). For all-weather attractions for children why not investigate Fort Fun or the indoor Motcombe Swimming Pool? Further afield, and within a one-hour drive to the west is Brighton, with its own pier, wonderful array of shops and eateries. To the west is Bexhill-on-Sea with its impressive art gallery, the De La Warr Pavillion, and long seafront. Just beyond is the old fishing town of Hastings with its new award-winning designer pier, ancient castle and fishing shanty town.
