  • A period clock tower sleeping two adult guests and thoughtfully finished with carefully chosen touches
  • An ideal location for enjoying a romantic couple’s break just a short walk to the seafront, sandy beach and coastal path
  • Overlooking the gardens of Ventnor Park, this is a fantastic alternative to a hotel stay, offering more space and privacy
Property code: IC145

Charming clock tower, part of a converted stable block, sleeping two adult guests in an interesting cottage in the pretty seaside town of Ventnor, a short walk from the popular sandy beach.

This property enjoys a delightful location overlooking the gardens of Ventnor Park. The town of Ventnor makes a wonderful base for a holiday, as it offers a wide sandy beach, attractive coastal walks, an array of shops, and an attractive botanic garden. The main beach is rightly very popular during the summer months, but a half-a-mile walk around the coast brings guests to the secluded beach at Steephill Cove, which is only accessible on foot, and therefore is a quiet haven from the main town beach. Due to the Isle of Wight’s small size, all of the island’s main attractions are within easy driving distance of the property, including Blackgang Chine, Dinosaur Isle, and the Garlic Farm.

A set of external stairs leads up to the front door of this well-maintained and unusual property. Once inside, guests come directly to the open-plan living space which occupies the main floor. In this charming space, with its wooden beamed ceilings, central staircase, and exposed brick walls, the lounge area has an inviting Chesterfield sofa, a warming wood burner, Smart TV and DVD player. The dining area sits off to one side of the staircase, beyond which the rustic-feeling kitchen is equipped with a Belfast sink, oven, hob, microwave, and fridge with ice compartment, whilst guests who need to do washing are able to make use of a laundry service. (Available on request) The cottage’s bedroom, meanwhile, is a double room with built-in wardrobes. Next to this room, there is a shower room with shower and WC. Please note that a wooden staircase leads to a mezzanine area, but for safety reasons guests should not alight the stairs.

Outside, the property not only enjoys a sunny decked balcony with garden furniture, but also boasts a courtyard garden at the bottom of the external steps, providing guests with a choice of areas to enjoy alfresco drinks or meals in the evenings. There is parking available in the shared courtyard, and space to unload on arrival at the foot of the steps.

The Cottage was very cosy and comfortable. Steps at the entrance very slippery in wet weather, not recommended for elderly or disabled. Could have done with more cooking utensils.

The flat is full of character, quiet and comfortable, very close to the coast path and 10-15 minutes walk into town. We enjoyed using the buses to get round the island and pleased that the no. 6 bus stop was very close by.

The Clock Tower cottage is best described as quirky. It has an olde worlde charm which is enhanced by the antiques which decorate the rooms. The only comment I have about the cottage is it needs to be signposted better. The entrance is not obvious because of the foliage that obscures the gate.

We had a great holiday, the location is perfect for exploring Ventnor. We had the added bonus of the Ventnor Fringe festival for entertainments which was great. The location of the apartment is great and the interior is quirky. But, it would benefit from some upgrades particularly to the shower room as it is a bit tired.

A quirky property in an excellent location. Quirkinesses, however, should not be allowed to excuse several issues that should have been rectified by the owners. The bathroom requires serious attention and upgrading. Filthy blind, none adjustable shower head, broken toilet plinth, broken floorboard by shower. The sofa, as mentioned in previous revieRead morews, is extremely uncomfortable and the very small dining table is totally impractical. Despite these issues we did enjoy a lovely holiday on IOW. This shabby chic cottage is just as it appears in the photos. Its quirky and creaky but we loved it. There is a feeling of peace here. Eastbourne is a bustling seaside resort on the south coast of England. It has been a popular British holiday destination since Victorian times. The town’s attractive pier and promenade is still a major draw for visitors in search of a traditional seaside experience – you can enjoy a long, level stroll along the sea front whilst enjoying an ice cream or some fish and chips. The pebble beach is a good place to park a deckchair and take in the sun, or paddle in the sea. Great for family breaks and as a romantic getaway, the town has much to offer all visitors. The South Downs Way starts in town and extends 100 miles eastwards to Winchester – one of the first stops on the National Trail are the imposing chalk cliffs of the iconic Beachy Head, a few miles to the east of town. Eastbourne is a big hit with train enthusiasts as it’s home to the Spa Valley Railway and the Miniature Steam Railway. Historians may like Redoubt Fort and The Observatory Science Museum (in nearby Herstmonceux). For all-weather attractions for children why not investigate Fort Fun or the indoor Motcombe Swimming Pool? Further afield, and within a one-hour drive to the west is Brighton, with its own pier, wonderful array of shops and eateries. To the west is Bexhill-on-Sea with its impressive art gallery, the De La Warr Pavillion, and long seafront. Just beyond is the old fishing town of Hastings with its new award-winning designer pier, ancient castle and fishing shanty town.
